ルクセンブルクのデザインオフィス Metaform Architectsは、独創的な形状をしたセラミックのエスプレッソカップ「Möbino」を発表した。

エスプレッソの表面に浮かぶ、香り豊かな泡である「クレマ」を保つように渦巻き型にデザインしたという「Möbino」。表と裏がない連続面であるメビウスの帯をイメージしている。

コーヒーは、渦を巻く表面に沿ってカップの底まで流れ込んでいく。このように回りながら注がれることで、クレマが消えず、より豊かで長く続くフレーバーが楽しめるそうだ。

さらに、カップは二重構造になっているので、手に熱さが伝わらず、なおかつコーヒーを保温してくれる。また、カーブは親指と手のひらにフィットするようにデザイン。容量はエスプレッソを飲むのに最適な20mlである。

デザインのもとになったのは、同オフィスがドバイ国際博覧会で手がけたルクセンブルク館で、これと同じダイナミックな外観を表現している。

カップの製造は同国のAteliers Kräizbiergが担当。障害をもつ人たちが仕事に取り組む組織で、才能豊かなスタッフがひとつひとつ手作業で成形し釉薬を施しているアート作品でもある。また、Möbinoの収益はすべてAteliers Kräizbiergに贈られることになっている。
